what are the council going to do about the state of bellshill there used to be good shops now is only pound shops hairdresser pubs and of course all the road works wee need more shops so people will come to bellshill

My son is getting married on 3rd July, and i would like someone to take pics of him and his best man, usher, and page boy getting ready and leaving for the ceremony, they have booked a photographer for the wedding but she works alone and is going to the brides house and then the ceremony. It doesnt have to be a professional, a student, or someone who like photography would be fine. I would get the pics printed,

yeah sad to c it go thats where a firdt got ma ears done and plannin n gettin a tat but my father n law wrks in there n they have bn gave 6 month to c if the shop keepers can keep it open there sell yeah the prises will deffo go up but whats a few pounds tay keep our wee town a place where ya kin go n defo meet 3 or 4 ppl ya know n kin have a wee gab ....dnt know if ya know but pretty woman closin this weekend too sad to c that 1 go too !

Aladdins was the place to be when i was younger my mum and gran met there for a cuppa and a kwenchie cup for us, and if we were lucky we got to go into the sweety shop that was across from the pet shop, (member all those sweeties in the bins mmm....) then when at the age of 16 when J&S Hendersons where there I use to work in the butchers and the atmosphere was brill speaking to all the customers and watching one anothers shops and just getting together with a few people was the best!
Aladdins is the place to get all those wee things that tesco and asda dont have/cant do!!
All i think all it needs is a little TLC and a coat of paint to freshen it up and to be advertise to let people know what is in there and to also get more shops in it!!!

Aladdins was one of the fundamentals of my childhood! It was the meeting point for my family in town for a cuppa in the peach coloured cafe, a cup of tea for mum and the aunties and a quenchy-cup for us kids!! Cheap trainers at the clothes shop (second shop on the left as you came through the doors i believe). What a shame it'd be to see it gone. Centre's like Alladins are the heart and soul of a decent working class community like Bellshill and are the only respite we have from faceless corporations. We may all shop at Asda but we meet at Aladdins!!!

Hi there, Just heard about Aladins being proposed to be closed , this cant happen! this is the centre of bellshill, everyone a some use for it, if all else fails Aladins will have what you need. The cafe is fab! go there most weekends for my breakfast.
I would also like to post to see if anyone knows of anywhere in Lanarkshire that I can hire for a wedding meal and reception that would allow for me to bring in my own caters???

Hiya Wendy. There are quite a few places locally who offer this facility, How many people are you thinking of having and I will give you an idea of the places I know who offer this facility?

We are posting this today as we are sure that you have all heard the sad news about the proposed closure of Aladdins Arcade in Bellshill. Being locals of Bellshill ourselves, the team here at www.bellshill.com are really saddened by this news and would most definitely not want to see the centre closing. Aladdin's Arcade has been a part of the Bellshill Community for the last 40 years and we don't see any reason why it shouldn't be a part of the community for the next 40 years! With morale at an all time low in Bellshill at the moment already due to shop closures, road works and redundancies this latest news is just the last thing Bellshill needs.
www.bellshill.com are pleased to support Aladdin's Arcade and will do everything we can to support the traders within the centre and also ask you, the Bellshill locals to show your support too. Pretty soon there will be very little left in Bellshill if these closures continue so we ask you to join forces with us and SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TRADERS!
We are launching a forum post on our website in which we would ask people to leave us your thoughts and comments with regards to this proposed closure. Remember that Aladdin's has been a part of the community for almost half a century and many local people are employed or own businesses within the Centre, so lets get together and show our support for them!
Give us feedback, what do you think Aladdin's needs? Is there anything that used to be in there that you would like to see there again? Do you or have you ever shopped there? If you don't shop there now, why not? Please give us your thoughts and we will take these back to John Corsen, the owner of Aladdin's Arcade who we are working with closely at the moment to give him our support.

I lived in bellshill for 22 years, now live in Coatbridge, and alladdins was where you had to be, it had everything, even years ago i liked it wen it had the odd stall there selling tapes/ cds. though what i think thats missing in aladdins, might be the actual look of it. inside it has to be upmarket, not like a downtrodden shop that looks like the barras. if it looked bright and cheery, and if the shelves were fully stacked, and the presentation was eyecatching, this means all the difference to local customers, is because there is some place better to go. look at tesco, or morrisons. successful. look at the products they sell. maybe take a leaf out of a supermarkets book, and turn alladdins into a supermarket...? i think it will work. then as time goes on, let visitors leave their thoughts and comments on feedback cards in the store, asking them what would make them buy from there.

Hi Scott, what about the Calder Bridge area in Mossend? There is a nature trail walk along with a river and waterfall down there. I might see you when I'm out walking my dog! What kind of dog do you have?

I used to live in Mossend many years ago, I havent been back there for quite some time and miss the place dearly. I remember spending my wages at the Picture house in Mossend. I hope to get back on my next vacation. Any Mossend locals using the site?

I've herd there is a round about going in Motherwell Road, will the road be shut off. I also herd the Main Street is going back to 2 ways, surely not!!

I agree that Bellshill used to be a busy town but the road works in the main street have made the town a complete joke! No wonder people feel that it is nothing but a huge car park!

New roudabout being built at Calor Gas to allow traffic travelling down Crossgates and Orbiston Drive to carry out a u-turn to access Bankhead, Glenmore and Blairholm once the crossovers at the junctions of these streets on Motherwell Road are blocked off. Traffic to Motherwell from Glenmore Blairholm and Bankhead will also have to travel up Motherwell Road to the angle and come back down the opposite carriageway.Another brilliant idea by your local councillors??
At a recent debate on regeneration Communities Minister Alex Neil stated that there was concern that a significant number of towns, seemingly regenerated, return and ask for the changes to be reversed within 10 years. I suspect Bellshill will fall into that category as the work done to date has been detrimental to the infrastructure and well-being of what used to be a reasonably busy little town with a healthy passing trade. It is now no more than a large car park.

I purchased a pocket watch that was either sold or made by W.H. Weir of Bellshill. I think it is dated about 1890. Does anybody know how to trace this maker for more details of his life? Any library in town or town archive?

WE HAVE MOVED FROM AND SEW LOUISE WITHIN ALADDINS.
WE HAVE RE-OPENED AS 'FANCY DRESS FACTORY' 183 MAIN ST. BELLSHILL.
We still stock HABERDASHERY,fabrics and dancewear and of course fancy dress.
A lot of people have seen the new shop but because we have changed the name we think we only stock fancy dress.
We still have all our ribbons, buttons, dyes, elastic, velcro etc we now even stock wool.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE TELL ME THAT THE FOLLOWING RUMOUR ISNT TRUE!
I was talking to a taxi driver the other day and he mentioned that the roundabout at the new Tesco in Bellshill is to be torn up (AGAIN) and rebuilt. Does anyone have any information on this at all?
Surely after 3 years of constant distruption to the Main Street they arent going to cause EVEN MORE!!! Bellshill residents and shop keepers have suffered long enough!!

With regards to concerns about the rumours surronding plans to close the North Road roundabout for several weeks for restructuring. My information is that this is indeed true. It may also be of interest that once the restructuring is complete there are plans to close the access to and from Bellshill via Glebe Street with the closure of the junction at the West Church. This will mean all traffic entering Bellshill from the West End roundabout will have to use the North Road roundabout.

This website is excellent!
I think this will really help the shops in the main street with the road works having caused them problems recently. This website will let the locals know that the shops are still there!

I have just found this website and I wanted to post a message and say how great I think it is that someone has taken the time to put this website together specifically for Bellshill. Bellshill has had a bit of a difficult time recently with the Main Street being torn up, roadworks etc and I think Bellshill could really be doing with something positive and thats why I think this site is great! Well Done!
