The Scottish Lithuanian Club in Bellshill will be playing host to a special fundraising night of soul, funk and jazz this very night.
The night will be raising funds for Mary's Meals. Mary’s Meals is an international movement to set up school feeding projects in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education.
Mary’s Meals provides daily meals in school for over 500,000 children in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
Mary’s Meals projects work in partnership with local communities. In Liberia the communities build the simple kitchens needed to cook Mary’s Meals at a school. In Malawi over 60,000 volunteers, usually parents, cook and serve 400,000 meals every school day. They draw up rotas, manage the stores, look after the cooking stoves, and make the idea of Mary’s Meals a reality. They are willing to volunteer their services in this way because they understand better than anyone how important the daily meal is to their children.
For the first time at the Club there will be 5 DJs playing for 5 hours, spinning all the best jazz, funk and soul tunes. Entry is £6.15 by ticket only.
The organisers say "Please support us at this event as every penny goes direct to the charity. I would like to thank all who have attended before and also the DJs who support us, so please buy a ticket and come along for what looks like a top night.
You may wonder why the £6.15 entry fee, but £6.15 feeds a child in Malawi for a whole school year. The organisers say "That's less than most of you will pay for Christmas paper to rip off of parcels". This surely puts it in perspective.
