Drinks World a Target for Crime

strathclyde police

Bellshill off sales Drinks World is becoming a target for thieves and opportunistic criminals in recent weeks.

There have been two racial incidents in the month of January, on 12th January and 23rd January respectively. Unfortunately police have been unsuccessful in tracing the man involved in this incident and are appealing for members of the public to come forward with information. The incident took place around 5.30pm on 12th January. The suspect is described as a male aged around 15 to 16 years old, wearing a white hooded top and white jogging bottoms. He had a spotty complexion. The boy had entered the premises and started racially abusing a member of staff for no reason. PC Munro is appealing for information to help trace the boy involved. If you can assist with enquiries please call 01698 202400 or call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.

Police were more successful in tracing the person involved in the more recent incident. The suspect involved was caught by police and attended Hamilton Sheriff Court on 25th January. He had entered the shop around 9pm on 23rd January and started to cause a disturbance after an altercation with a member of staff, who subsequently called police. CCTV footage was used to identify the man and he was arrested the day after the incident.

Drinks World was also targeted by thieves on 28th January. The incident took place around 11.30am on Saturday morning. A man entered the premises and waited until the member of staff on duty moved to work in another area of the shop. He then reached over the counter and removed the cash box. The box was later found discarded and empty in Sandy Park near the pavilion. The raider made off with a four-figure sum of money.

Bellshill Police are appealing for any information about the thief or for any witnesses to the incident to come forward with what they know. The suspect is described as a man aged between 35 and 40. He is around 6 foot tall and was wearing a black Berghaus jacket, light blue jeans and a dark coloured beanie-style hat. If you have any information please call Bellshill Police in confidence on (01698) 202400. If you have information but would prefer to remain anonymous you can call Crimestoppers on 0845 555 111.
