A hit music initiative helping disenfranchised young people in North Lanarkshire has received a £2,000 funding boost from UK Steel Enterprise—and used this to leverage a further £20,000.

Reeltime Music offers workshops and courses as well as rehearsal and recording services, which give young people a chance to interact positively and apply themselves to something worthwhile.

The event will be held at the College’s state-of-the-art Campus in East Kilbride where members of Faculty staff will be on hand to answer questions and give information and advice on 2013-2014 courses.

A new group has been formed to support the development of additional sports and social facilities in Bellshill and Mossend.

The key aim of the Bellshill Mossend Community Initiative is to bring together a number of different sports and pursuits and create a new facility in the community, which existing clubs and societies can use to enhance their current programmes of activity.

NHS Lanarkshire’s award winning Dementia café will hold its next meeting on Friday 1 March.

Primary school pupils are taking part in a competition to name a new woodland being created by Forestry Commission Scotland,.

The new woodland will be established close to homes in Fallside and Bothwell with Bothwell Park Road running through the middle of the site.

MORE than 30 youngsters were spoken to, apprehended or moved on by Police during an operation aimed at combating youth disorder and anti-social behaviour.

A local screening initiative has received a ‘Highly Commended’ award as part of the 2012 Cervical Screening Awards run by Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, the UK’s only charity dedicated to supporting women affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities.

Events to highlight violence and abuse of women

NHS Lanarkshire’s Ending Violence and Abuse service (EVA Services) worked with partners to organise a host of events to mark the annual 16 Days of Action Campaign to End Violence Against Women.

Bellshill’s Hollie Laird became the first ever young person in North Lanarkshire to achieve the 500-hour Saltire Award for giving time to volunteering. Hollie, 18, achieved the accolade for her outstanding commitment to volunteering with the Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre over three years from 2008-2011. Saltire Awards is the Scottish Government programme for recognising young people aged 12-25 who volunteer.
